There have been many calls for a BIBFRAME Primer that would provide foundation and implementation information for BIBFRAME users and implementors. We are pleased to finally make it available at https://bibframe.org/docs/view/documentation-bf-primer/index.md.
The purpose of the Primer is to provide a solid starting point for implementing the BIBFRAME model and vocabulary, including real-life examples and implementation considerations. It is not comprehensive, but will be augmented, and otherwise modified, so that it will remain reasonably current and demonstrative. Given the flexibility of the BIBFRAME model and vocabulary it is impossible to capture every BIBFRAME permutation for every possible format and scenario. Therefore, it is anticipated that this Primer will be more a living document than a static one.
The document begins with a wide, broad discussion of the BIBFRAME Model in general and proceeds to narrower topics, such as a common BIBFRAME classes and properties, followed by more focused discussions about format specific classes and properties. The last section of the document covers particulars about RDF (datatypes, URIs, blank nodes) and other specifics. An appendix elaborates on the concept of the Hub.
